Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

This is a song I often have my students listen to near the end of the year. I ask them to analyze what the author meant when she says," I hope your dance". I ask them if they will sit it out or if they will dance? Again, once they understand what the song is about, I ask them to think about their dreams and if they will go for it. Then they write in their journals. I also allow them to share their thoughts. There is never a dry tear in the classroom. This song inspires many to think about their future and what it could be like. Being a high school teacher, this is one area I try to inspire my students to do: Believe for their future. It's tough out there, but their dreams can come true!
